The symptoms vary. And so does the journey. Some people come in with pain, some come in having noticed their posture in a mirror, and some, like Rachel, come in as teenagers still trying to make sense of it all.

One of the biggest misconceptions we see is that scoliosis can be “fixed” after a few sessions with a chiropractor or physiotherapist. The reality is more nuanced than that. There’s no single cure, but with the right approach, scoliosis is very much manageable. At Spinefit, we work through four phases of active rehabilitation, starting with pain relief and postural work, moving into stretching and strengthening the muscles around the spine, then restoring full function and range of motion, and finally, for those who want to push further, a performance phase tailored to their lifestyle and goals. The pace is always set by the individual, not by a fixed timeline.

What that process actually looks like in real life, the consistency it takes, the mindset shifts, the small wins that add up over years, is harder to put into a clinical framework. That’s where Rachel’s story comes in.

One Patient’s Scoliosis Journey, In Her Own Words

Some journeys don’t start in a gym or a wellness trend. They start with a scared teenager who just wants to feel normal. This is Rachel’s story.

Years ago, I walked into Spinefit as a quiet, insecure secondary school student with scoliosis. I genuinely thought I’d spend the rest of my life hiding behind oversized shirts. Even talking about my condition felt uncomfortable.

A lot has changed since then.

I can now talk openly about scoliosis without flinching.

Through consistent physiotherapy and the guidance of my physiotherapist Hannah, I went from attending sessions twice a week to just once a month for maintenance. The sharp tingling pain I used to feel around my arch is mostly gone. But honestly, the bigger shift was mental.

A lot of people think scoliosis can be “cured” after seeing a chiropractor or physiotherapist. That’s not really how it works. For me, the journey was about discipline, consistency, and learning to take ownership of my own health. Scoliosis isn’t something I’m ashamed of anymore. It’s simply a part of my body that grew together with me, and in some ways it made me more aware of my posture and more in tune with how my body feels.

What helped more than I expected was the environment here. I joke that I came for mental therapy more than physiotherapy, because everyone at Spinefit is genuinely warm. I started my journey with Daphne, then continued with Hannah, and even through those transitions the care never felt disrupted. That consistency mattered.

By the time I graduated university (5 years since I started coming to Spinefit), I realised how far I’d come from that shy girl who first walked through the door. I can now talk openly about scoliosis without flinching. And younger me would probably be shocked to know I can confidently wear a crop top without overthinking it.

What made this journey even more meaningful was coming back to Spinefit, this time as part of the front desk team! Seeing patients walk in nervous or unsure, I recognised that feeling immediately, because I was once them. It reminded me how much warmth matters when someone is still figuring out their healing or recovery process.

Scoliosis never stopped me from doing the things I love or living normally. The real progress wasn’t just in my spine. It was learning that accepting yourself is its own kind of growth.

What Scoliosis Management Actually Looks Like

If any part of her story sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
